Dr Karro obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) degree at the University of Cape Town in 2000. He completed his 2 year internship training at district level hospitals in South Africa, gaining experience in various disciplines including paediatrics, general surgery and trauma. In 2003 he moved to London to work as a Senior House Officer (SHO) in Ear, Nose and Throat surgery where he was fortunate enough to hold a position at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear hospital in Kings Cross. He continued to work as an ENT in the UK until 2006 when he returned to Cape Town. He subsequently did a two year stint in general surgery before entering the Stellenbosch University Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) Specialist training programme at Tygerberg Hospital. He completed his training to become a Fellow of the College of Otorhinolaryngologists in May 2013 and continued to work at Tygerberg Hospital until February 2014.
He moved into private practice to join the ENT group at Cape Town Mediclinic in March 2014. He also holds a part-time sessional post at Paarl Provincial State Hospital where he does bi-monthly clinics and theatre lists and still maintains strong ties to Tygerberg hospital where he examines students and attends academic meetings. He considers himself a generalist covering various areas of ENT including paediatric ENT, sino-nasal disease, voice, benign neck pathology, ear disorders and throat/swallowing pathology.
